Cubelles
Cubelles is a municipality of Catalonia, Spain, which occupies an area of 13.36 km² and has an altitude of 12 m. It is attached to the region of Garraf (Barcelona province) and is located 50 km from Barcelona. It is the last coastal town in the province of Barcelona and the Garraf region on the south side and 40 km from Tarragona. It maintains cultural relations of brotherhood with the French town of Arles-sur-Tech, belonging to Department of the Eastern Pyrenees.
Communications:
- Train: The railway station is located less than a kilometer from the town center and the beaches. The town belongs to the fare zone 4A of the ATM Àrea de Barcelona. The train leaves every 30 minutes from the Barcelona-Sants Estació station and the journey takes 45 minutes.
- Plane: It is located 30 minutes from El Prat international airport in Barcelona.
- Road, with a private car, the main access roads are:
- Free access: From the county C-31 (former C-246).
- Access by toll highway: From the freeway Pau Casals C-32 south branch, which has a direct exit in the municipality.
- Road, by bus: Cubellas has several stops that connect it with other towns in Garraf and with the capital Barcelona.
- The beaches: Playa de la Mota de Sant Pere, Playa de Les Salines and Playa de Les Gavines, make up three kilometers of coastline.
- Church of Santa María de Cubelles: It dates from 1737 and its bell tower from 1765. It is rectangular with three naves divided into sections marked by the exterior buttresses. The façade imitates a stone padding.
- Castillo de los Marqueses de Alfarràs: It was built in 1675 on the remains of the old Castillo de Cubelles. It has been recently restored and the Tourist Office offers guided tours on the first weekend of each month.
- The Alliance: Founded in 1914 by the American Pere Escardó, it is a sample of the legacy of the Indians. It belongs to the local entity, the Societat Recreativa L’Aliança.
- Fountain on calle Major and fountain on calle Sant Antoni l’Americano, Joan Pedro i Roig: He was responsible for bringing drinking water to Cubellas and building the two public fountains that are still located on calle Major and on calle Sant Anthony
- Can Travé: It is a romantic style building. There was a library of classical mythology and a cabinet of Natural History promoted by Frederic Travé. Today it no longer belongs to the Travé family. Municipal property undergoing a restoration project, however occasionally, events have been organized in its gardens.
- Ca l’Aleix, next to the previous one. Country house dating back to the centuryxvi whose owner was Perot Negrell, at a time when it was used as a hostel and “change of horses”, since it was located on the old Camino Real (or old Villanueva road). - Hermitage of Sant Antoni de Padua: Built in 1694 by Marià Gassó. Chapel of a single nave. It is characterized by its simple architectural structure. Private property.
- Old Quadra Gallifa: architectural ensemble of the centuryxi. At the beginning of the centuryxvi it belonged to the Renaissance poet Joan Boscà Almogàver. Private property.
- House of Dr. Estapé: This house was built in 1943 by the doctor, cardiologist and director of the Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona. Private property.
- Weekly market: Friday mornings, in the Market Square.
- permanent exhibition of the clown Charlie Rivel, born in Cubelles on April 23, 1896.
